Small group of members gathered near Wensley on a very dark February evening. We tramped across a few waterlogged fields with Chris leading the way, using his phone to nav. After a short walk we found the entrance, my 12 year old ‘recollection’ of being there before kicked in, although I’d never been into the mine. Reputed to be one of the oldest mines in the Peak District we were surprised at how small the passages were. No one had a survey so we fumbled our way through various pipe veins to eventually end up at Bridge Cavern and the bottom of the shaft entrance. Well save that for another visit. No one felt like exploring the ‘natural’ cavern, so that’s for another day. We splashed our way back to our cars and then on to the Square and Compass in Harley Dale.
